What is a SASSA status check?
A SASSA status check is the official way to see the outcome of your Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant application. SASSA tests every applicant again each month, so the result of your SASSA SRD status check can change from one month to the next.
The grant has had more than one name. That is why people search for it in different ways:
- R350 grant. The grant started at R350 in 2020. Many people still call it the SASSA SRD R350 status check.
- R370 grant. The amount went up to R370 in April 2024. The SASSA R370 status check, or SASSA status check R370, is the same check with the new amount.
- SC19. This is the code in the web address for the special COVID-19 grant. A SASSA status check SC19 search leads to the same page.
So it does not matter whether you type “SASSA status check R350”, “SASSA status check for 370” or “SASSA 350 SRD status check”. You need one page and one set of steps. The SRD SASSA status check for R350 and R370 is one and the same, because the R350 grant simply became the R370 grant. The R370 SASSA status check for R350 applicants needs no new application.
Latest SRD SASSA status check update: the grant has been extended to 31 March 2027, and the amount stays at R370 a month.

SASSA status check online 2026: step by step
The SASSA SRD website status check is the fastest method, and it shows the most detail. You need data or Wi-Fi.

- Open your browser and go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status. Check that the address ends in .gov.za before you type anything.
- Enter your 13-digit ID number.
- Enter the 10-digit cellphone number you used when you applied.
- Tap Submit.
- Read your result. You will see your application details first. Below that is one block for each month, with the outcome, the reason and the pay date if you are approved.
The SASSA “check status” online form asks for only those two numbers. You do not need a password, and you do not upload any documents. The steps are the same whether you call it the SASSA R350 status check online or the SRD SASSA status check online.
Tips for a smooth check
- Use the cellphone number you applied with. A different number gives “no record found”.
- The site is slowest in the last week of the month, when payments run. Early morning usually works best.
- One check a day is enough. Refreshing again and again does not speed up your result.
- If the SRD SASSA “check status” page will not load, wait a few minutes or use WhatsApp instead.
- Changed your number? Call 0800 60 10 11 to update it first.
Other ways to check your SRD status
For an SRD status check, SASSA gives you three more official channels. They all read from the same records as the website.
WhatsApp: 082 601 0111
SASSA launched this self-service WhatsApp line in August 2026. It works 24 hours a day.
- Save 082 601 0111 and send “Hi”.
- Choose the SRD option from the menu. It is shown as My COVID19 SRD.
- Enter the cellphone number you applied with.
- Type in the one-time PIN (OTP) that arrives by SMS.
- Enter your ID number.
- Pick what you want to see: application status, payment status or payment date.
The OTP only comes by SMS to your registered number. Never send it to anyone else.
Phone: 0800 60 10 11
The helpline is toll-free. Have your ID number ready. An agent can explain a decline reason and tell you what to do next. Lines are busiest in payment week.
In person: your nearest SASSA office
Go to an office if you lost the SIM card you applied with, or if your ID details are wrong. Take your ID and proof of address.
| Method | What you need | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Online status check: SASSA SRD portal | Data, ID number, cellphone number | Full month-by-month result and pay dates |
| WhatsApp 082 601 0111 | WhatsApp and your registered SIM for the OTP | A quick check when the website is slow |
| Helpline 0800 60 10 11 | Any phone and your ID number | Having a decline reason explained |
| SASSA office | ID and proof of address | Lost SIM or wrong ID details |
What about USSD codes? Older guides mention *134*7737# and *120*69277#. Both were reported as not working in September 2026, so do not rely on them.
What does your SASSA SRD status mean?
Your SASSA SRD grant status check shows one result for each month.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | SASSA is still verifying your details for that month | Wait, then check again in about a week |
| Approved | You qualify for that month and R370 is set aside for you | Look for the pay date next to the month |
| Declined | You failed one of the checks for that month | Read the reason, then appeal if it is wrong |
| Referred | A person at SASSA is reviewing your file by hand | Wait. Visit an office with your ID if it drags on for weeks |
| Bank details pending | You are approved, but SASSA has no verified bank account for you | Update your banking details |
| Cancelled | Your application was closed | Reapply at srd.sassa.gov.za |
| No record found | The ID and cellphone number do not match an application | Check for typing errors and use the number you applied with |
Common decline reasons and how to fix them
| Reason shown | What it means | Your next step |
|---|---|---|
| Alternative income source identified | More than R624 came into your bank account that month | Appeal with a bank statement if the money was a once-off gift or loan |
| Identity verification failed | Your details do not match Home Affairs records | Complete the identity check or visit a SASSA office |
| UIF registered | The system shows an active UIF claim | Appeal with proof that your UIF has ended |
| NSFAS registered | You are listed as a funded student | Appeal with proof that your funding has ended |
| Existing SASSA grant | You already receive another social grant for yourself | This decline is usually correct |
| Age outside range | You are younger than 18 or have turned 60 | At 60, apply for the Older Persons Grant instead |
SASSA checks you against Home Affairs, SARS, UIF, NSFAS and bank records every month. That is why an approved month can be followed by a declined one.
Good to know: receiving a Child Support Grant for a child in your care does not stop you from getting the SRD grant.

SASSA status check payment dates 2026
The SRD R370 does not have one fixed payday. SASSA pays it in batches late in each month and confirms the exact days shortly before. In August 2026, for example, payments ran from 24 to 26 August.
Your SASSA status check payday is the pay date shown next to an approved month. To find it:
- Do your status check.
- Find the month marked Approved.
- Read the pay date next to it.
Money usually reflects in your account two to three working days after that date. Whenever you do a SASSA status check, January to December, the rule is the same.
See the confirmed dates for every month in our SASSA SRD payment dates 2026 guide.
Searching for R350 payment dates? Here is what they mean now
| If you searched for | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| SASSA status check for R350 payment dates for 2026 | The grant is now R370. Dates are confirmed month by month, late in the month |
| SASSA status check for R350 payment dates for June | June follows the normal pattern: batches in the last week of the month |
| SASSA status check for R350 payment dates for 2022 | The grant was R350 then. Call 0800 60 10 11 about an approved month that was never paid |
| SASSA status check for R350 payment dates for 2023 | Still R350 that year. The increase to R370 came in April 2024 |
| SASSA status check 350 payment date | There is no separate R350 date. Your pay date shows next to each approved month |
SASSA status check banking details: approved but not paid?
If your status says approved but no money arrives, the cause is usually your bank details.
- The account is not in your own name. SASSA does not pay into another person’s account.
- The name or ID number on the account does not match your SASSA record.
- The account is closed or dormant.
How to update your banking details
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and find How do I change my banking details.
- Enter your ID number.
- SASSA sends an SMS with a secure link to your registered cellphone number.
- Open the link and enter your new bank details.
- Wait for SASSA to verify the account before the next payment.
After a SASSA R350 status check, online banking details are updated on this same official site. Do not change your bank details while a payment is on its way, because a change can delay it.
Our SASSA banking details guide explains the payment options, the rules and how to fix a failed verification.
SASSA status check appeal: what to do if you are declined
You can appeal any declined month. Appeals go to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA), which is separate from SASSA. An appeal is free.
How the SRD SASSA status check appeal works
- Do your status check and note the declined month and the reason.
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals.
- Enter your ID number and cellphone number.
- Enter the PIN sent to you by SMS.
- Choose the month you want to appeal.
- Choose your reason for appealing and submit.
- Deadline: lodge your appeal within 30 days of the decline, and no later than 90 days.
- One month at a time: each declined month needs its own appeal.
- Waiting time: an outcome usually takes 60 to 90 days.
- Tracking: check your appeal status on the same appeals page.
- Proof: keep a bank statement, an affidavit or a letter that shows your UIF or NSFAS has ended.
Read the full SASSA SRD appeal guide for the proof to keep and how to track your appeal.
SASSA status check, appeal status check, balance check: three different things
| Check | What it tells you | Where to do it |
|---|---|---|
| Status check | Approved, pending or declined, plus your pay date | srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status |
| Appeal status check | The progress of an appeal you lodged | srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals |
| Balance check | How much money is in your account | Your banking app, an ATM or a till slip |
There is no such thing as a SASSA SRD R350 status check balance. The status page shows approvals and pay dates only.
SASSA child grant status check and other grants
The SRD status page covers the SRD grant only. A SASSA grant status check for the Child Support, Older Persons or Disability Grant works differently.
- Applied online? Log in at services.sassa.gov.za to follow your application.
- Prefer WhatsApp? Send “Hi” to 082 601 0111, choose Social Grants, then Application Status.
- Applied at an office? Call 0800 60 10 11, or go back to that office with your ID.
These grants are paid in the first week of each month.
| Month (2026) | Older Persons Grant | Disability Grant | Children’s grants |
|---|---|---|---|
| October | Friday 2 October | Monday 5 October | Tuesday 6 October |
| November | Tuesday 3 November | Wednesday 4 November | Thursday 5 November |
| December | Wednesday 2 December | Thursday 3 December | Friday 4 December |
The Child Support Grant is R580 per child a month from April 2026.
How to avoid SASSA status check scams
- A status check is always free. Anyone who asks for a fee is not SASSA.
- Only trust web addresses that end in .gov.za.
- Never share your OTP, bank PIN or card number.
- SASSA does not use agents or “fixers” to unlock a status or speed up an appeal.
- Report suspected fraud on 0800 60 10 11.

How to check 350 SASSA status in 2026
The R350 grant is now the R370 grant. Use the same official status page with the same ID number and cellphone number.
Can I still do an R350 SASSA status check online?
Yes. Your old R350 application carried over to the R370 grant, so the online check shows your current months.
Is there a separate SASSA R370 check status page?
No. R350, R370 and SC19 all use one page: srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.
What is the R370 SASSA status check 2026 update?
The grant continues at R370 a month until 31 March 2027. There is no increase in 2026, and the income limit stays at R624 a month.
How long does a SASSA status check for R370 stay pending?
A pending month usually changes to approved or declined within one to two weeks. If it stays pending for more than a month, call 0800 60 10 11.
Do I have to reapply every month?
No. SASSA tests your application again each month without a new form from you. Keep your cellphone number and bank details up to date.
How often should I check my status?
Twice a month is enough for most people. Check early in the month to see the outcome, and again in the last week to see your pay date.
Is the SRD grant ending in 2027?
The grant is funded until 31 March 2027. Government has not yet finalised what will replace it after that date.
